the last kingdom

'The Last Kingdom' is getting a third series, and it will be exclusive to Netflix.

The US-based streaming service co-produced the second series alongside the BBC.

But now the historical drama will be exclusive to Netflix.

Series three will arrive later this year, Netflix has announced. Series two will also arrive on the streaming service on 18th April (at the moment, only series one is available).

The series is based on Bernard Cornwell's Saxon stories. Series two saw Uhtred start his voyage north to avenge the death of Earl Ragnar and to recapture his ancestral lands at Bebbanburg. Meanwhile, King Alfred tried to unite the disparate kingdoms of England.

There's no word on what will happen in series three. We'll bring you more as we get it.
