Residents in several parts of Devon will benefit from super-fast broadband courtesy of BT from next spring.

Twenty-four communities in the south-west, including Bideford, Honiton and Sidmouth, will be included in the rollout of BT's 21st Century Network, reports This is the West Country.

Under the plans, local residents will be able to access super-fast broadband speeds of up to 24Mb, which is more than double the average speeds available in most homes at the moment.

BT is also rolling out its 21st Century Network to a number of other locations across the UK, with the aim of providing around 20 million homes and businesses with high-speed broadband by spring next year.

Earlier this week, it was reported by the Lancashire Telegraph that six towns in East Lancashire are set benefit from super-fast, next-generation broadband thanks to BT's rollout programme.

Homeowners in Colne, Darwen, Great Harwood, Padiham, Chorley and Todmorden are among those who will benefit from the initiative.
