TalkTalk's YouView box has been shortlisted in the Best Home Entertainment Device category for the Gadget Awards 2012, it has been announced.

The set-top box - which enables TV content to be delivered via a broadband connection - was nominated by readers of the news and reviews website Pocket-lint.

As such, the YouView box will take on Microsoft's Xbox 360 games console and the Onkyo TX-NR818 home cinema receiver system for the prestigious award.

Tristia Clarke, Commercial Director at TalkTalk, welcomed the news saying it is "a great day" for the broadband, home and TV provider.

"We were delighted when Pocket-lint's reviewer recognised that TalkTalk was offering ‘the most complete YouView offering yet’, citing the ability to add content including entertainment channels, and Sky Sports and Sky Movies a month at a time, with no long contracts," she noted.

"And now that readers have nominated our service for an award, we hope the judging panel will agree."

The judges' vote counts towards half of the total score for each gadget nominated, with votes cast by the general public making up the other half.
