Virgin Student explained
Virgin Media student broadband deals
When it comes to broadband, the needs of a typical student houseshare are very different to those of a family household. Below we outline the features that make Virgin Media's tailor-made student broadband offering attractive to undergraduates, taking in everything from contract length to price points.
9 month contracts
The long holiday means students don't need broadband during the summer months. So students don't pay for a service they won't use, Virgin Media offers contracts that run for nine months instead of 12.
Generous download limits
Mutliple occupancy households, such as student digs, make more extensive use of the internet than those with fewer occupants. They're also more likely to be heavy downloaders.
For that reason, Virgin Media student deals feature high download limits. That means you won't have to worry about exceeding your usage limit.
SuperHub Wireless Router
In a typical student household, there are sure to be scores of web-enabled gadgets spread across the house.
Virgin Media's SuperHub wireless router is designed to provide a strong signal throughout larger homes, so you'll be able to get online and at super fast speeds irrespective of how many occupants there are in your home and how many are using the web simultaneously.
Virgin Media student deals customers can expect connection speeds of up to 60Mb. Consequently, you can expect seamless online gaming and video streaming for those times when you're taking a well deserved break from study.
Option to add TV
Pay TV can be expensive. But it's much more affordable than when you're spreading the cost in a shared student home. Choose Virgin Media and you can add more than 200 extra TV channels to your package, plus the excellent Tivo set top box, and split the cost as many ways as you've got housemates.
Why else should I choose Virgin Media?
Money is at a premium for students. But because Virgin Media fibre broadband doesn't require you to have a landline, you can make significant savings. With landline rental priced at not far shy of £15 per month, this isn't to be sneezed at.
If you're already a Virgin Media customer, you also qualify for cheaper monthly mobile phone offers from Virgin Mobile. That spells even more savings.
Virgin Media student broadband housemate calculator
To make calculating your outlay easy (even when you're nursing a hangover), Virgin Media has devised a handy tool on its website.
Who else offers good student broadband?
Plusnet student broadband is highly rated. Unlike Virgin Media's nine-months contracts, Plusnet offers one-month rolling contracts which you are free to cancel at any time. As with Virgin Media, that means you can avoid paying during the summer holidays.
Although not marketed as student broadband, TalkTalk's broadband service is very keenly priced, which means it's of obvious appeal to students.
If you're a bit more flush, BT's Infinity fibre broadband service offers many of the advantages as Virgin Media's service. Not least the brilliant BT HomeHub wireless router and super fast fibre broadband speeds.
