An increasing number of UK households are looking to take advantage of super-fast broadband, it has been claimed.

Tristia Clarke, Commercial Director at TalkTalk, said consumers want to take advantage of fibre broadband connections to make the most of online opportunities in the digital age.

"We know that demand is continuing to increase for super-fast broadband as our customers increasingly look to watch television live online, download movies and play games," she stated.

Ms Clarke noted that many consumers are seeking access to high-speed broadband on a number of different devices, all at the same time.

And this means broadband providers need to deliver additional bandwidth and faster speeds to their subscribers.

TalkTalk recently announced plans to launch a new up to 80Mb fibre broadband service, which also offers up to 20Mb upload speeds.

Ms Clarke explained that customers currently enjoying TalkTalk's 40Mb broadband can double their download speeds for an extra £15 per month.

The new ultra-fast broadband service is set to launch in April 2012.
