Many Sky and TalkTalk customers in Southampton have been unable to get online after roadworks on the A27 led to a major fibre optic cable being damaged.
In a statement, TalkTalk confirmed that engineers are currently on-site and working to restore service to those affected.
Sky has also deployed engineers to the scene of the problem and apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
However, the providers could not give an exact time for when broadband services are likely to be up and running.
Aggrieved customers have therefore turned to Twitter, with some calling to be compensated for the service outage.
