Top 10 Broadband’s February News Review
Posted 2nd March 2007 at 4:25pm by Alex Buttle
Well what a month it’s been in the world of broadband. There’s been new legislation, new technology and big arguments to settle. There was Ofcom’s new regulations on MAC codes, the launch of IPTV and Virgin Media’s and BSkyB’s now notorious disagreement.
It is safe to say that Virgin Media has caused shock waves in the industry since its introduction on 1st February. They have been the first company to provide a ‘Quad-Play’ service (TV, Broadband, Phone and mobile), the first to introduce IPTV on a large scale to Households, and are currently testing 50Mb/s broadband.
However it’s not been all rosy for Virgin as they announced post-tax losses and have lost over 37,000 staff before the re-branding. Along with the infamous spat with Sky it’s been a rocky start. This quarrel has caused Virgin to drop the basic Sky package from its service. Although this is detrimental to both companies, Virgin seems to have suffered more.
Here at top10-Broadband, we’ve been hard at work developing some new tweaks and info for our site which I’m sure you will enjoy soon. So have a good March and keep reading our news page to keep updated with the latest on what’s happening in the broadband world.
