Posted 7th August 2007 at 11:19am by Alex Buttle
Internet Service provider AOL, owned by Carphone Warehouse, has agreed a deal with Australian betting firm FLUXX to offer sports betting on the internet in the UK.
Users will be able to place bets on a huge array of international sporting events due to the deal signed with FLUXX subsidiary JAXX UK. AOL has already has a similar deal with JAXX in which they provide a run a lottery service which is now one of AOL’s most successful e-commerce services in Germany.
Vice president of interactive marketing for AOL Europe Michael Steckler commented on the deal by saying "As part of our mission to make the AOL UK portal the premier online destination for web users and advertisers alike, we are looking at a range of partnerships and initiatives to drive our business forward in Europe." He later added that the deal with FLUXX fit’s AOL’s strategy by saying that they are experienced yet have plenty of energy and ideas.
Rainer Jacken, management board spokesman of FLUXX, shared the same enthusiasm, and said that the UK market is "one of the largest and most attractive in the world", worth considerable amounts of money.
The UK online gambling market according to FLUXX is highly undeveloped and with this agreement in place they feel they can use the potential of the market to achieve success.
