Timico has become the latest broadband provider to report an upsurge in the use of broadband during the recent Olympic Games in China.

The business broadband services specialist claims it saw a 24 per cent rise in ADSL-based broadband usage over the course of the games, rising from a ten per cent increase for the opening ceremony, reports Think Broadband.

PlusNet is another provider to report the Olympic broadband effect, charting a "marked increase" in usage.

Broadband usage grew by 140 per cent during the 'Greatest Show on Earth', while demand for streaming rocketed up by 200 per cent.

It is thought the figures could have been boosted by office workers logging on to the BBC Sport website while at work to catch the action on the iPlayer service.
