Brits signing up to TalkTalk's line rental services will be able to enjoy the provider's Essentials broadband package free-of-charge until 2010.

The deal will apply for those taking out a contract between January 16th and March 2nd, with broadband users able to enjoy speeds of up to 8Mb and a monthly download allowance of 40GB.

Line rental will cost £10.50 as part of an 18-month contract, with broadband being charged at £6.49 from 2010 until the end of the deal.

"We know our customers are looking for money saving options now more than ever," commented Andrew Harrison, chief executive at the Carphone Warehouse's, TalkTalk's parent company.

He continued: "With the current economical climate, we are offering our customers cost effective solutions to be able to stay in touch easily and cheaply, both online and over the phone."

Those thinking of taking advantage of this offer, which comes with a free wireless router, are warned that a £29.99 connection fee is charged.

This is a joke! I signed up for this 2 years ago - free broadband forever, when it first came out from TalkTalk and I signed up they told me because my area was ADSL through the existing phone line and my exchange was not 8meg speed, I would have to pay an additional £9.99 per month for broadband. This was for 2.2Meg speed and up until last August this was fine, I didn't mind as it was still cheaper than all others. I keep asking TalkTalk when I am going to get the 8meg and the free broadband forever I signed up for. TalkTalk keep telling me that as long as I stay below 8meg I will have to pay for broadband.

Last December I got a letter from TalkTalk saying my speed was going up, and it was going to cost me another £2.99 per month on top of my existing £9.99. Two weeks maintenance were to take place to make the connection better, more stabel and to stop it disconnecting between 2 and 6 times a day. At the end of January, I am now up to 6meg download speed at best, when it's not disconnecting. I say thing very very carefully before signing up with TalkTalk because at the time I signed it was said to me 8meg free broadband forever, and they just keep moving the goalpoasts to suit themselves. Don't bother with customer services - it's an overseas call centre where you are read to from a script - as much help as a chocolate fire guard.
