Broadband Speeds

Lucky residents at the new Wembley City development in west London are lucky enough to enjoy three-figure broadband speeds.

According to a report from the Communications Consumer Panel, there are now nearly 40 small-scale initiatives up-and-running around the UK, providing next-generation access.

One of the most remarkable is the new network near to the home of English football, Wembley Stadium.

The new apartments being built by Quintain Estates offer broadband connections with a speed of up to 100Mb, with users paying for half-hour slots.

Speaking to the BBC, Quintain's managing director of commercial ventures, James Saunders, explained the pricing plan.

"It would drastically raise operating costs and most people don't need it so we don't think that always-on 100Mbps is the answer at the moment," he said.

Residents in Muswell Hill are also lucky enough to experience lightning-quick connections after BT decided to pilot its fibre technology in the north London suburb.

More disruption, more footpaths degraded? More road-trenching. In 2009 why can't high i-net speeds happen without hard-wiring everybody?
Has nobody heard of WIRELESS? I dread further environmental degradation. But I would like BT to spend a bit more on my land-line, to get me from the present c.2Mb/s to nearer the wistfully advertised "up to 8.0Mb/s". 100Mb/s I do not need!

So look at other countries like China, America oh and a little place called Sweden. Look at what theY're getting - somewhere in the region of 10x what the average person in the UK recieves.
