A man from Hull has become the first broadband customer in the city to benefit from an internet service provided by a new operator.

Jonathan Gibbins was connected to One Point IT's service yesterday (August 20th), humberbusiness.com reported.

Mr Gibbins is the first person in Hull who does not have to rely on technology or hardware supplied by Kcom.

Martin Lauer, Managing Director of One Point IT, told the site that the company is pleased to be able to offer an alternative broadband service to residents in the area.

He said: "As a local businessman, I simply love the idea of Hull gaining its independence in terms of telephone and internet provision.

"I am very proud of my part in giving East Yorkshire residents more choice."

Additionally, Mr Gibbins will also be able to use his new One Point IT service to make phone calls.

Sounds good will look into this, Hull residents are desperate for competition to have services other than KC. I pay £30/m for a landline i don't need other than to allow access to broadband. (£10 /m landline £20 /m braodband) The broad band service is pretty poor too. Supposedly 8meg, more like 1meg.
