Orange has joined Vodafone as a UK carrier of the iPad on broadband deals from May.

After months of speculation, Vodafone became the first UK broadband provider to break cover earlier today with news that it is to offer the iPad on broadband packages from the end of next month.

Orange has now confirmed it will also be making the iPad available on monthly contracts along the lines of broadband laptop deals, quashing speculation that Vodafone may have sealed exclusive rights to the device.

A statement from Orange read: Orange today announced that it will offer dedicated iPad price plans for all models from the end of May (in France, UK, Spain and Switzerland).

“The iPad lets users browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface.”

O2, which was the exclusive iPhone carrier in the UK until late last year, has yet to disclose its plans over the iPhone.

All networks' deals are going to be ruinously expensive - pretty much a second mortgage. It'll make buying an iPhone on a contract look like pocket money.
