Well, according to Virgin Media many Britons are spending far too much on broadband, by failing to shop around for the most appropriate deal for them. The most common error made by shoppers is to buy expensive gadgets for their internet connection which are unnecessary for the requirements of the user. This is particularly so for users who find basic functions a difficult task but are led into buying hi-tech gadgets through advertising and misleading information.

Apparently some 4 per cent of respondents had no idea what services their broadband, phone and TV providers offer, while astonishingly another 17 per cent claimed they ‘couldn’t be bothered’ to switch to cheaper providers, even if substantial savings could be made.

Managing director of marketing at Virgin Media said "Today's technology can really make life simpler and more entertaining but can also be difficult to get to grips with if you don't have straightforward advice."
