Apparently 61% of UK broadband users cannot live without their high speed broadband connection, according to a recent study by Orange. This may sound dramatic, but with broadband helping achieve essential tasks like shopping, banking, paying bills and keeping in touch with loved ones it shows how important broadband is becoming nowadays.
Out of the interviewees nearly half said that they spend three hours or more online every day - that’s over 46 days a year! Regional differences show that while people in the South West and North West are most likely to go online for entertainment and watching TV programmes, those in and around the capital prefer to use the internet to make or keep in touch with friends via social networking sites.
Moving North the trend changes again – the inhabitants of Newcastle and the North East are the entrepreneurs of the broadband community as they buy and sell more goods online than anywhere else.
Asif Aziz, Director of Product Management at Orange, commented: “Ten years ago, few of us had fast home Internet access or used it regularly, particularly for entertainment, so it’s amazing to see how it has evolved to be a pastime as popular as watching TV.”
