UK broadband provider Vodafone could approach Carphone Warehouse with a partnership deal if a bid for Tiscali is successful.
Such is the assertion of a recent This is Money article, in which it is suggested that a potential deal could see Vodafone ditch BT as its principal broadband supplier.
City analysts told the publication that the recent agreement between Carphone Warehouse and US-based firm Best Buy has made a partnership deal much more desirable for Vodafone.
"If Carphone Warehouse boss Charles Dunstone bought Tiscali and became the UK's biggest internet firm, Vodafone would reconsider its arrangement with BT," one source is quoted as saying.
Such a move would come as a blow to BT at a time when flat annual profit reports are expected, the publication notes.
Elsewhere, a report in the Times suggests that the Carphone Warehouse deal with Best Buy will help it to position itself as a principal player in the laptop market, which will in turn increase its role in the provision of broadband in the UK.
