A group of 200 Virgin Media customers in Warrington, Cheshire, will be the first to enjoy Virgin Media's new 50Mb service in all its glory.
The selection of subscribers have been chosen by the provider to trial its upgraded connection and will receive faster broadband for two months, reports the Register.
No costs will be incurred by the trial participants it is thought that Warrington - a town that lies in between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool -was chosen due to the high number of residents already signed up to Virgin Media's higher-speed services.
Giving further possible factors behind the choice of Warrington as a trial location, the Register says: "One of the national cable network's three "head-end" nodes is down the road from Warrington at Knowsley.
"The north-west served as the test bed for new products under Telewest, a pattern that has continued since it merged with NTL to form Virgin Media in 2006."
Virgin Media recently made the claim that as many as nine out of ten broadband speed testers on the web fail to accurately measure its high-speed connections.
