One manufacturer is marketing a USB modem stick which also acts as a phone, memory stick and MP3 player.
The Toshiba G450 is the ultimate in dongle gadgetry, allowing owners to get online, access music, store files and call their friends and family.
An advantage of the battery belonging to the device is that it automatically charges when inserted into a computer.
Despite being larger than a standard dongle, the G450 is still a comparatively miniature device, but according to IntoMobile, Toshiba works well with the size constraints.
The technology news provider observed: "The two-line display could have been a disaster, but Toshiba has made good use of the available screen estate, and once you work out the power switch/rocker and volume rocker are the navigation keys, things are really quite simple."
Users who plan to utilise the device as a USB modem stick will have to insert a SIM from their chosen operator.
