Over three million iPads have now been sold by Apple since the tablet device's launch in the US 80 days ago.
The electronics giant has revealed that the system, which allows people to browse the web, read and send email and watch high definition videos, has proved a big hit with consumers.
It added that developers have also created over 11,000 new applications designed to take advantage of its multi-touch user interface and large screen.
Steve Jobs, Chief Executive Officer of Apple, said: "People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives.
"We're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month."
Broadband providers including O2, Vodafone and O2 have launched microSIM-based data price plans designed specifically for use with the Wi-Fi + 3G version of Apple's tablet device.
