Plusnet news

Participants in the Plusnet Fibre Pigeon Race have arrived safely back in South Yorkshire, the home of the internet service provider.

To coincide with the launch of its new 40Mb broadband deals, Sheffield-based Plusnet released 20 racing pigeons in London yesterday, assisted by former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett.

The birds quickly completed their 150-mile journey back to Doncaster, with Byron crowned the winner of the race.

In the time it took the pigeons to complete their trip, Plusnet was able to download 12 episodes of Dr Who from iTunes using a 40Mb internet connection.

The 21GB of data consumed was more than six times that possible using an average 6.2Mb broadband connection.

Jamie Ford, Chief Executive Officer at Plusnet, commented: "Plusnet Fibre is the next generation of broadband and 96 per cent of our trialists say they would recommend the service to friends.

"We thought the pigeon race was a light-hearted way to illustrate the speed advance that Plusnet Fibre can offer," he stated.
