Local authorities will receive help from the government in support of the procurement process for rolling out broadband.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced it will draw up a list of approved broadband suppliers in order to simplify linking rural areas to high-speed broadband infrastructure.
The framework agreement will be aimed at local authorities and devolved administrations.
Through the list they will be able to select suppliers through 'call-off' contracts, rather than run their own independent procurement processes.
The DCMS said once the list is in place it will provide "significant savings in terms of time and costs compared to multiple independent procurement processes for both the public sector and suppliers".
The framework is in support of the government's commitment to delivering the best super-fast broadband in Europe by 2015.
