Broadband access in becoming essential for UK farmers, it has been suggested.
According to Farming Life, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is encouraging farmers to carry out more online submission of applications and documents.
As such, it is "imperative" that they have the sufficient tools available to them - including fast, reliable broadband.
"With an increased level of bureaucracy, high-quality broadband coverage is vital to help the agricultural sector become more efficient, without consistent coverage, rural areas are being denied this opportunity," Farming Life stated.
"While lower speed internet services can be transmitted down conventional copper wire telephone lines, super-fast broadband services can require state-of-the-art fibre optic cabling. Installing this can be expensive."
Farming Life noted that dispersed nature of the population means not everyone can have super-fast or even standard broadband piped right to their door.
As such, many rural businesses are continuing to suffer from inadequate broadband services.
The Country Land & Business Association recently called on the government to do more to provide rural homes and businesses with next-generation broadband.
