Germany is the country with the fastest average mobile broadband speeds, it has been reported.

According to Akamai's latest State of the Internet report, German consumers are currently able to download at a rate of 6Mb using their mobile broadband dongles.

The report found that 65 broadband carriers worldwide offer broadband speeds of greater than 1Mb, while just three offer less than 500kbps.

A recent Ofcom study indicated that the average UK mobile broadband user is currently able to download at a rate of 1.5Mb.

However, the coming launch of 4G mobile broadband services should see download capabilities increase quickly.

Ofcom is set to auction off spectrum in the 800MHz and 2.6GHz frequency bands later in 2012, enabling mobile operators to launch next-generation services.
