New ways of accessing the internet have created a variety of opportunities for consumers, according to one broadband provider.
Writing for the Plusnet blog, Martyn Hudson said that surfing the web "isn’t all that's exciting about the internet these days".
He noted that more and more household gadgets are Wi-Fi enabled, allowing people to make home life "that little bit easier".
Mr Hudson explained that consumers are harnessing the power of super-fast broadband to use a range of gadgets, including washer/dryers, cordless phones, projected games and Wi-Fi cameras.
He said an increasing range of appliances are reliant upon wireless broadband - heightening the importance of a reliable connection.
"Today's modern technologies aren’t just functional – they're fun, too," he noted.
