Virgin Media news

Virgin Media has come out on top in a poll by Netflix to find the fastest ISP for streaming movies and TV programmes in the UK.

The broadband supplier beat off stiff competition from BT, O2 and Sky to top the latest Netflix ISP Speed Index ranking.

It rates the average performance of Netflix video streams on each broadband provider's network and revealed that the fastest speed in any region Netflix is available is the Google Fiber network in the US, at an average of 3.35Mb.

When only the UK is taken into account, Virgin Media leads the pack at 2.37Mb, ahead of BT (2.25), O2 (2.23) and Sky (2.1), while TalkTalk (2.05) rounded out the top five.

According to Netflix, the survey was compiled using data from 33 million users watching one billion hours of films and TV programmes every month, though the company noted that it was not intended as a means of gauging general end-user internet connection speed.
