The south-east of England is home to the highest level of rural households that have access to fast broadband, according to the latest Halifax quality of life index.

The vast majority of people in the region now have access to broadband speeds of at least 2Mb (deemed 'fast' by Halifax), according to the 2013 Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey, which ranked areas based on factors such as life expectancy, income and employment rates, as well as access to broadband services.

Overall, the rural areas with the greatest access to broadband of at least 2Mb were Chiltern (where 94.6 per cent of households have access), followed by Mid Sussex (94.1 per cent) and Thanet (92.4 per cent), all of which are in the south-east.

The broadband scores also helped Chiltern and Mid Sussex to rank highly in the top 50 for overall quality of life, coming in at 4th and 12th, respectively.
