TalkTalk TV has released a Beta version of a new app for Android devices, in a bid to further improve the YouView user experience.

The app features a one-week forwards and backwards TV guide, reminders, film trailers and TiVo-style smart watch lists, using titles, actors and directors.

According to the TV, home phone and broadband provider, the app - which can be downloaded from the Google Play store - presents the TalkTalk TV guide in "quite a different format" to the YouView box.

"With the advantages of a touch screen and rapid scrolling, this is a very different experience," the broadband provider stated.

The app enables TV viewers to create reminders and add items to their Watchlist, allowing them to browse listings from any location.

When used at home, it operates as a 'second screen', meaning viewers can look at the guide and use other features without disturbing their main viewing.

TalkTalk noted that the launch version of the app does not include a remote record setting, but this feature is "coming soon".

Social media integration and support for 10" tablets is also set to be added in future, the broadband provider stated.

Households signing up for the TalkTalk Plus TV package receive a free YouView box worth £299, allowing them to enjoy TalkTalk TV.

The service offers access to Freeview channels and a host of on-demand content, plus seven-day catch-up services.

Viewers are also able to pause, rewind and record live TV using their remote control.
