Brits are increasingly reliant upon their broadband connections and reluctant to give up access to the internet, a study has showed.
Fibre broadband provider Hyperoptic, which interviewed 3,000 broadband customers, found that consumers were more willing to sacrifice chocolate (45 per cent) and alcohol (24 per cent) than their broadband line (nine per cent).
In addition, more people said they would prefer to abstain from sex (22 per cent) than refrain from using the internet.
Hyperoptic discovered that consumers are spending longer and longer online each day, with the average Brit claiming to be connected for nine hours a day.
In the capital, this rises to 12 hours - exactly half of each day, including time spent asleep in bed.
The average Londoner was found to have five devices connected to the internet, including phones, computers, TVs, game consoles, music players, alarms, and thermostats.
Across the UK as a whole, the average consumer had three connected devices.
