BT has ramped up its drive to get broadband and TV customers to add its mobile phone service to their packages, by boosting the allowance on one of its biggest SIM only options and cutting the cost of handsets.

Subscribers to BT's 2GB tariff now receive 1,000 minutes a month - up from 500 - along with unlimited texts and access to the UK's largest Wi-Fi network, for £12 a month for 12 months.

Other features of the SIM only deal include a free BT Sport app allowing users to catch sporting action on the move, as well as unlimited calls to 0800 numbers and a monthly spending cap.

In an attempt to sweeten its mobile offering even further, BT has also knocked £50 off a number of handsets, including the Huawei Ascend Y550, Samsung Galaxy Ace 4, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and Samsung Galaxy S5.
