BT Sport subscribers will soon have the chance to follow all of its live Premier League games in UHD with Dolby Atmos Sound.
The provider is aiming to become the first broadcaster in the UK to roll out Dolby Atmos and plans to roll it out to people with BT Sport UHD TV packages from next month.
The first game to be shown in UHD with Dolby Atmos sound will be the clash between title contenders Liverpool and Chelsea on January 31st.
BT has confirmed it aims to show every subsequent Premier League match broadcast on its sports channels in the same way, along with various FA Cup fixtures.
"Dolby Atmos sound combined with Ultra HD will deliver the most immersive experience possible, allowing customers to feel as if they are in the stadium," BT Sport said.
"It will be available for no extra cost with BT TV’s Total Entertainment pack."
Dolby Atmos sound has been billed as one of the key features of the software update that is coming to YouView.
The service enables sounds to exist as individual entities, rather than constraining them to channels.
This makes for a much more free-flowing sound, adds the sensation of height and depicts the sounds of objects moving overhead, thereby making the viewing experience more three-dimensional.
BT has doubled the number of sports events it broadcasts in 4K this season, which means sports fans should have plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the improvements.
Rob France, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Dolby, commented: "This is phase one of what we see as a long-term relationship between Dolby and BT."
