BT Sport has begun showing Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League matches with Dolby Atmos sound in a move it has described as a "world first".
Dolby Atmos sound had already been used for Premier League games, starting with last month's game between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.
BT Sport is now extending the offering to more competitions, with matches being broadcast in Dolby Atmos Sound exclusively on its 4K UHD channel available with its BT TV Total Entertainment package.
The first match to be shown in this way was Manchester United's Uefa Europa League game against St Etienne on February 16th.
This will be followed by Manchester City's meeting with AS Monaco in the Uefa Champions League on February 21st.
Jamie Hindhaugh, Chief Operating Officer at BT TV and BT Sport, commented: "BT Sport is always aiming to be innovative and Dolby Atmos sound is a fantastic addition for viewers watching the Uefa Champions League and Europa League.
"We’ve already shown four Premier League matches in Dolby Atmos sound so far this year and I’m delighted that BT Sport is delivering the same immersive experience for the Uefa Champions League and Europa League.
"We want viewers to truly feel the atmosphere of the stadium when watching games BT Sport."
BT added that it has doubled the number of sport events being shown in Ultra HD this season.
The provider believes that when combined with Dolby Atmos sound, viewers can enjoy the "most immersive experience possible" and feel as if they are actually in the stadium.
