Average mobile broadband speeds in the UK are considerably lower than in many other European countries, a new study has revealed.

According to RFBenchmark, Hungary has the fastest average download speed of 79.55Mbps.

Luxembourg ranked highly as well, with an average of 44.7Mbps, followed by Lithuania at 44.1Mbps.

Hungary also came top of the list for average upload speeds, with a figure of 40.71Mbps.

Luxembourg again followed in second place with an average upload speed of 35.84Mbps, while Denmark's average upload speed of 24.83Mbps put it into third place.

However, typical download speeds in the UK were found to be considerably lower. Figures showed the UK's average download speed is 11.9Mbps, while the average upload speed is 4.2Mbps.

Nevertheless, this could change in the coming years, as a recent report by Cambridge Judge Business School predicted that ultrafast mobile broadband will be available to 90 per cent of Britons by 2027.
