Virgin Media customers will soon be able to track the movements of a technician they have booked in real-time.
When customers book a service appointment, they will be issued with a unique link that can be accessed via their computer, tablet or smartphone.
This will show them the name of the technician, their estimated time of arrival and a live map so customers can see how far away they are.
Furthermore, a reminder that a technician is due to visit their home will be sent a day before the appointment. According to Virgin Media, this technology has proved very successful in other parts of the world, reducing the number of missed appointments by up to ten per cent.
Customers in Liverpool, Guildford and the Cotswolds will be the first in the UK to have access to the tool, ahead of a wider rollout later in the year.
Neil Bartholomew, Executive Director of Consumer Customer Operations at Virgin Media, commented: "We know that waiting at home for a technician can be frustrating, even more so when you don’t know when they will actually get to you.
"Customer expectations are always increasing and this powerful new tool will provide clear, simple and transparent information to help our customers plan their day better and make it as easy as possible to get on with their busy lives.”
