BT is looking to expand its mobile broadband services with the introduction of a new range of data-only SIM plans that will allow consumers to access 4G broadband services through the EE network.

These data-only SIM cards, which do not permit calls or texts, are designed to be used in laptop or tablet devices and provide a connection to the internet wherever a user is.

They may be especially useful for individuals who frequently need to access the internet when they away from their home, but want to use a more capable device than a smartphone.

Additionally, they could also be handy as a backup if a fixed-line service is unavailable or does not provide consistent speeds.

Users will be able to choose from a range of four plans at launch, all of which will come with a 12-month contract, roaming support in 47 countries and free access to BT's network of five million Wi-Fi hotspots.

The entry-level option, known the the Essential Plan, will cost £15 per month and provide users with an allowance of 3GB of data per month.

This is followed by the Perfect All-Rounder Plan, which features 6GB of data for £17 per month, while the High Data Plan will set users back £22 per month, for which they will get 15GB of data. Customers on these plans also gain free access to BT Sport.

Finally, the Ultimate SIM Plan offers users 30GB of data at a special price of £27 per month until September 27th, after which it will increase to £28. This also comes with free BT Sport, as well as an £80 BT Rewards prepaid Mastercard for those who order before September 14th.

However, it is worth noting that all the above prices are for customers who do not currently have BT Broadband. Existing customers of the company will enjoy a £5 discount on all four plans, while BT Plus subscribers will also receive double the data allowance.

Pete Oliver, managing director of marketing at BT, said: "Whether they're streaming their favourite shows and movies to keeping the kids happy on those long car journeys, our first 4G mobile broadband plans will keep our customers connected while providing great value, along with great benefits like free BT Sport on many of our plans and double data for our BT Plus customers."
