Reports that the Samsung i8910 HD boasts the fastest processor yet seen on a mobile phone have been debunked.
Earlier this week, employees of Samsung’s Indian division at a mobile phone industry event had claimed that the handset sported a 1GHz processor.
However, upon further investigation Tech Radar has ascertained that this was due to a miscalculation on the workers’ part.
Those involved had apparently mistakenly added the 420MHz speed of the handset’s DSP sound processing chip to the 600MHz speed of the ARM Cortex-A8 CPU.
However, in reality it is the 600MHz processor that handles the lion’s share of tasks, with the sound chip unlikely to make much difference to the phone’s operating speed.
Currently, the fastest processor on a mobile phone – at 800MHz - is installed on the Samsung Jet, the speed of which is being highly touted with the advertising slogan ‘Impatience is a Virtue’.
