Samsung Galaxy S3 landing April, says mobile mover & shaker

The Samsung Galaxy S3 will show its face in two months’ time, one of the mobile sector’s best-connected - and most loose-lipped - analysts has revealed.

Sammy had originally been expected to drop the successor to the sales phenom that is the S2 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this month.

However, last week the phone-maker broke the hearts of Android Army conscripts everywhere when it announced the sequel to the S2 won’t be showing at the expo after all.

Instead, Sammy told us we can expect it to tip up at a separate event later this year – presumably a move intended to ensure ‘hero handset’ status and lock in plenty of column inches for the phone we’re informally calling the S3.

Worryingly, Samsung’s statement didn't name anything approaching a specific date, but said the phone will arrive some time in the first half of 2012 – suggesting we could be waiting up to five months for it.

Today, there was at least a soupcon of good news for would-be buyers, after Eldar Murtazin of Mobile Review revealed that his own industry intel indicates the much-anticipated smartie will launch in April.

Murtazin doesn’t cite a source for his info. But given his impressive track record with breaking mobile news, you can bet it’s of some pretty solid provenance.

News of developments around the S3’s launch date comes amid a welter of speculation over the kit’s spec sheet. Features rumoured to be on board include a 12-megapixel snapper, quad-core processor and, more than a little fancifully we think, 3D media playback.
