Samsung’s Galaxy S2 continues to be a hit with UK smartfans, beating the iPhone to pole position for a staggering 11 months running.
Stats from the uSwitch Mobile Tracker, which monitors live searches and sales data for Blighty’s most sought-after kits, reveals the S2 is still top dog since landing in May last. This is despite Apple releasing the iPhone 4S, which is currently the nation’s second-most popular handset.
A combination of cheap price points and improved brand recognition appear to the major contributing factors that have found Sammy’s phone favour with punters. Contracts offering the S2 gratis start from £18.50 a month, a saving of nearly £300 compared to the iPhone 4S.
Explaining S2’s impressive stranglehold in the UK, Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch, said: “It’s the smartphones at the right prices that make the bestseller chart.
“The Galaxy S2 has the unbeatable combination of rock- bottom prices – having been available to buy since May 2011 – and a stellar array of features that include a sizeable 4.3-inch pin-sharp touchscreen, an 8MP camera, and access to the ever- expanding Android market.”
