Samsung has begun rolling out a second over-the-air firmware update for the international Galaxy S3, bringing an array of tweaks, fixes and UI enhancements.
Chief among these are at last a dedicated slider control for adjusting the screen brightness, which was conspicuously missing at launch, new toggles in the power menu and fixes for the AccuWeather widget, which now displays the correct location.
The brightness slider is a welcome addition, as the automatic brightness was a tad too low for using the S3 enjoyably on a sunny day. The good news is this appears to have been amped up too.
Icons that make sense
Elsewhere on board are some minor UI tweaks, including a new sun-shaped clock icon for Daylight Saving Time in the clock widget, that replaces the solitary ‘1’, which bugged me to no end. There are also new icons to toggle between sound options, i.e. sound off, vibrate and sound on.
Samsung Video Maker app, also AWOL at launch, is back via Samsung Apps under ‘More Services’.
You can manually grab the update, codenamed ‘19300XXLFB’, via the Kies PC companion software. Alternatively, go to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone on your handset to check if it’s available.
So far T-Mobile UK users seem to be the first to get it, but other networks should follow suit soon. The total download size is 72.68MB, so be sure to use a Wi-Fi connection to avoid eating into your data.
