Samsung Galaxy S4: thinner chip clears way for super-slim handset

A super-slim memory chip from Samsung has fuelled speculation that its next flagship phone could be its thinnest yet, as it renews its challenge to Apple in the smartphone market.

According to Samsung, the memory chip packs a whopping 64GB of storage but is per cent more svelte than earlier efforts from the House of Sammy.

The space-savings, which we owe to Sammy swapping 20 nanometer tech for 10 nanometer, clear the way for a sleeker Galaxy phone – most probably the as-yet-unconfirmed Galaxy S4, which is expected early next year.

Winningly, Samsung claims the slimmer chip also performs 30 per cent better than its earlier efforts. This means it’s ten times faster than memory cards, whose days already seem increasingly numbered in the bold new world of Cloud computing.

News of Samsung’s advances come as it is tied up in a legal wrangle with Apple, marking a souring of relations that purportedly saw the South Korean company raise the price of the A-Series processors it sells to Apple by 20 per cent.
