Android Jelly Bean lands on Samsung Galaxy S2 in UK

Android Jelly Bean is available to download now for UK-based Samsung Galaxy S2 owners, putting a rather spry spring in the step of Sammy’s ageing, one-time flagship.

According to user testimonies on a host of messageboards and reports on tech sites, the latest 4.1.2 iteration of Android is currently up for grabs for owners of unlocked S2 handsets via Samsung’s Kies download solution.

Versions for S2 models bought on-contract are expected in due course. But only, of course, once the software has been tested for compatibility by carriers – a process that has been known to take months.

Features Jelly Bean adds to the two-year-old smartie take in the slew of performance enhancements that go by the none-more-Smooth-FM moniker Project Butter and the card-based, voice-activated wondrousness of the Google Now digital personal assistant.

Also incoming is the ace Smart Stay feature. Perhaps best described as an intelligent sleep mode, this uses the phone’s front-facing camera to detect user’s face motions and determine when the handset is in use.

Interestingly, although the camera options have been improved it seems that the Photosphere camera app has not made the cut.
