Black clouds and stormy portents continued to gather around the Samsung Galaxy Gear today, after a uSwitch laid bare consumers’ scepticism towards the phone-maker’s first-ever foray into wearable technology.
In a uSwitch Tech poll, punters were asked which device will be better a) the Apple iWatch smartwatch or b) the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
Worryingly for Samsung, of the 1,622 site users polled only 37 per cent named the Galaxy Gear, while nearly two-thirds said Apple would make a better fist of a smartwatch with the iWatch.
The findings come after leaked photos of a Galaxy Gear prototype surfaced yesterday to a somewhat sniffy reception from tech-watchers. Among the less complimentary adjectives tossed its way were ‘bulky’ and ‘ugly’.
Since then Mobile Review editor and analyst Eldar Murtazin hinted that Samsung will attach an unrealistically high price point to the Galaxy Gear and that this will stymie its chances of making an impact.
Apple’s iWatch, which like the Galaxy Gear will not make or take calls, is not expected to land until next year.
