Samsung Gear Live smart watch unveiled

Samsung has officially unveiled the first-ever smartwatch to use Google’s Android Wear platform, as the centrepiece of yesterday's I/O event that was also marked by a preview of the new 'L' version of Android.

The Samsung Gear Live will go on pre–order today, although the Big G and Sammy have yet to reveal final pricing.

The South Korean gadget-maker's slice of wearable tech comes with a 1.6–inch super AMOLED screen, 4GB of storage and a 1.2GHz processor to keep things kicking over.

Dust and water-resistant, it also has a heart rate monitor, making it every bit as fancy as the already–out–there Samsung Galaxy Fit.

The big deal, though, is Android Wear. Google delivered more details about its wearable specific operating system during a keynote speech at its annual I/O event.

Devices using the OS will have their own native apps and notifications will sync across from your Android phone too.

Swipe up and you’ll see cards delivering relevant information, just as you can with Google Now on current Android phones. These can be dismissed with a swipe or explored further with a tap.

On top of the Samsung Galaxy Live, the LG G Watch will also be up for grabs soon. Motorola’s much–hyped Moto 360 will be on shelves later in the summer.
