About Coventry Building Society

Thomas Daffern and a group of local citizens founded Coventry Building Society in 1884. The society was originally named the Coventry Permanent Economic Building Society, but when it merged with Coventry Provident Building Society in 1983, this was shortened to Coventry Building Society . The society was, and still is, based in Coventry. Unlike other building societies, the Coventry remains a mutual society and their mission statement is to put members first at all times. Coventry Building Society provides savings accounts, current accounts, insurance services and mortgages. The society has mortgages for new and existing customers. These include variable rate, discounted rate, interest only, buy to let, tracker, flexible drawdown, and offset mortgages.

Coventry Building Society also allows a parent or close relative to act as a guarantor to help first time buyers get a mortgage.

Coventry Building Society provides a re-mortgage transfer service to make it easier for customers to transfer from an existing lender to a Coventry BS mortgage.

Other Coventry BS mortgages include buy to let products for landlords and offset mortgages for customers wishing to save interest by linking their savings and mortgage accounts.

Existing customers can transfer from one product to another and take advantage of special offers applicable to new customers. Existing customers can also apply to borrow more money to finance home improvements, or in the case of a buy to let mortgage, a new property.

Customers can make capital repayments or overpayments into their Coventry BS mortgage account. The terms and conditions of the mortgage product will affect whether early repayment charges are applied.

Most Coventry Building Society mortgages are portable, which means customers can move them to a new property if necessary.
