Owners of the new Apple TV will soon be able to watch Amazon Prime Instant Video on the streaming box.

Engineer Dan Bostonweeks was told by an Amazon customer service representative that the service will likely land on Apple TV "within a few weeks".

The rep said: "Dan, I have interacted with our technical team and have been informed that they are currently working on developing a new app for the Apple TV.

"As we have already succeeded in developing an app for iPhone and iPad, we hope to make an app separately for the Apple TV.

"Hopefully, within a few weeks span, you will be able to see the Amazon Instant Video app feature on your Apple TV."

Amazon recently stopped selling the Apple TV and Google Chromecast dongle through its online store to prevent confusion over which devices supported Prime Instant Video.

This raises the question: will Amazon start stocking Apple TV once again if its app comes to the platform?

Amazon is also said to be adding other streaming services which are accessible from Prime Instant Video. Hopefully, we'll hear some announcements this side of Christmas.
