According the a new report by the European Commission (EC), a third of Europeans are now wired up to a high-speed broadband connection. Of the 27,000 households surveyed in the report 53% are connected via ADSL while 35% use wireless connectivity.
There has been an increase in uptake for bundled packages with fixed phone lines and broadband being most popular with nearly a fifth of people having bundled packages. "Europe's digital economy is growing strongly as more and more households embrace convergence between fixed, mobile and internet services," quoted Viviane Reding, the EC's information, society and media commissioner. She continued, "the challenge of this year's reform of the EU's telecom rules will be to respond to this rapidly changing technological environment while enhancing at the same time effective competition."
