Broadband customers should not let the lure of free gifts determine which provider they opt for, according to a price comparison website.

Of late broadband providers have been loading their bundles with a number of enticements including Orange and AOL's offer of a free laptop for customer signing 24-month contracts.

However, Steve Weller, head of communications at says customers should pay more attention to the fundamentals of the deal over the course of the contract to ensure they get the best deal.

He said: "Before being lured by the freebies on offer we urge consumers to take service and speed into consideration to avoid future disappointment."

In particular, Mr Weller noted that customers take note of the customer service ratings the provider has garnered and make these their priority consideration.

News of Mr Weller's comments comes after research conducted by the site revealed that two in five broadband subscribers said they are not satisfied with the level of customer service they have received.
