The influx of new broadband customers brings the firm's total subscribers to 3.5 million.
Growth was also noted in the firm's mobile phone business, with contract customers in the period growing by 53,000 to 299,000.

News of Virgin Media's broadband division's performance comes after complaints that some of the firm's recent advertising campaigns were misleading to customers were this week upheld by the Advertising Standards Agency.
Sky had complained that the advertisements had made an unfair comparison between its eight megabytes per second (Mbps) package and Virgin Media's 2 Mbps package.
