Mobile broadband provider 3 has reported significant growth in its customer base.
According to the telecoms firm, there are now nearly 500,000 3 mobile broadband subscribers in the UK.
In international terms, there are now said to be over one million 3 mobile broadband contract holders across Europe, meaning half of the firm's customer base is located on British shores.
UK chief executive of 3, Kevin Russell said that although voice traffic on its network had dropped due to network terminations, data usage - which can be attributed to mobile broadband connections - has grown by 600 per cent.
As well as in the UK, the provider reported the growth of its mobile broadband offerings in Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Denmark and Austria.
However, 3 admits that the cost of using mobile broadband abroad is sky-high due to mobile broadband roaming rates. The firm is urging the EC to regulate international wholesale data roaming rates.
