Vodafone has announced plans to upgrade its wireless network in Manchester.

The mobile broadband provider will plough millions of pounds into the improvements which will bump speeds up, reports the Manchester Evening News.

As well as enhancing the broadband connections enjoyed by Mancunians, Vodafone plan to change the way customers are billed, with those using mobile broadband abroad promised simplified per-day roaming sessions to make costs more predictable.

Alec Howard, head of PC Connectivity for Vodafone UK, commented: "Manchester, along with five other major conurbations, is now the fastest network in UK.

"We have been heavily investing in the network so that when people are out and about they can get the same wireless experience that they do in the office."

Manchester City Council recently announced the extension of the Eastserve project, bringing cheap wireless broadband to residents in the east of the city.
