The service will cost mobile broadband customers £15 per month and will offer speeds of up to 3.6Mb depending on signal strength.

According to the provider, the deal will be available on an 18-month contract, with 3Gb data allowance every month.

Virgin Media has explained that the allowance will be enough to send 2,000 emails and 100 hours worth of web surfing, as well as 100 two-minute downloads every month.

Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett commented: "The launch of our mobile broadband product means UK consumers can now get all of their broadband needs from the UK's leading broadband expert."

Any Virgin Media XL home broadband customers will get the new mobile broadband service free for the first three months, the company has confirmed.
